With the exception of Loudoun County and year round schools throughout the area, most Northern Virginia public school students will start back to school Tuesday, September 6, 2011.  Each jurisdiction may have different holiday schedules, teacher work days, early release times and last day of school, however.

Fairfax County Public Schools begin September 6, 2011 and will go through June 19th, 2012 with Winter Break 12/23-1/2 and Spring Break from 4/2-4/6.  For the complete calendar, visit the website here.

Falls Church City schools also begin 9/6 and have the same Winter and Spring Breaks but the last day of school for Seniors is June 13th and students in grades K-11 have the last day on June 14th, 2012.  The calendar is available here.

Arlington County Public schools begin 9/6 with Winter Break 12/23-1/2, Spring Break from 4/2-4/9 and the last day of school June 20th for high school students, June 21st for middle school students and June 22nd for elementary school students.  The complete calendar including teacher workdays and early release schedule can be viewed here.

The 21st annual Taste of Reston, produced by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, will be held at beautiful Reston Town Center, on Market Street, Friday (3PM-11PM) and Saturday (12PM-11PM), June 17-18, 2011. Taste of Reston is Northern Virginia’s largest outdoor food festival featuring delectable samplings from the region’s favorite eateries, live music both days, beer and wine gardens, fun and games at The Family Fun Zone, the Guns n’ Hoses Chili Cook-Off, and a 3 day carnival.

Tinner Hill Blues Festival

Friday, June 3rd, 2011 and the first Friday of every month check out shops, restaurants and galleries in the City of Falls Church for musical entertainment, special exhibits, a classic car cruise-in, discounts  and more at various venues throughout the city. 

This week’s event includes a Classic Car Cruise-In sponsored by Don Beyer Volvo at Art Alot, free ice cream from Lazy Sundae and an art exhibit at Art and Frame of Falls Church, a musical performance by Mercury Rising, a doggie yappie hour, beer tasting at Red White and Bleu, and a yoga class for charity.
